Alan Buchanan, a retired electrician and long term resident of Hamilton, Ontario, died on April 21st, 2022 at the age of 73 after a long hard fought battle with cancer and dementia. Alan is survived by his wife Susan Buchanan, his children Hayley, Scott and Grant Buchanan; his brother Ken Buchanan; grand children Benjamin, Samuel, Alexa, Melana and Jaxon. He is predeceased by his father Thomas Buchanan and mother Catherine Buchanan. Alan Buchanan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on January 9th, 1949 to Thomas and Catherine Buchanan. Alan was a talented boxer and soccer player through his youth and became a Scottish featherweight boxing champion. Alan took up an apprenticeship and became a certified Electrician and worked in a variety of locations including the North Sea of Scotland on Oil Rigs and Saudi Arabia. On August 23rd 1974, he married Susan, in his home city of Edinburgh before friends and family. On September 1st, 1976 he welcomed his first born child Hayley followed by two sons Scott and Grant born June 3rd 1978 and August 27th 1985 respectively. His three children were the most important part of his life. Alan was a devoted father, grand father and husband. He will be deeply missed by by his friends, family and all who knew him.
