FLORA, Archie Lorenzo June 21, 1932 – May 15, 2021 It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Archie Lorenzo Flora at home in his 89th year. He leaves behind his adoring daughters Susan Flora, Catherine (Len) Heckel, and Louise Flora. Cherished and proud Nonno to his two grandsons Peter and Brian. Survived by his dear sister Nilma Gazzola (Peter deceased) and sister-in-law Denia Phillips (John deceased). Predeceased by the love of his life, wife Mary (Iannarelli) in 2016; his parents Pietro and Lina, and sister-in-law Annina (Adolphe) Salomone. Archie will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Schumacher, ON, Archie graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Queen’s University in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in 1956. Archie’s career in the pulp and paper sector spanned 47 years and included jobs at Anglo Canadian Pulp & Paper in Quebec City, Gulf Pulp & Paper in Clarke City, QC, Ontario Paper Co. in Thorold, Reed Inc. in Toronto, Atlantic Packaging in Whitby, and Diashowa Forest Products in Toronto. He really loved his work and the people he worked with. His roles were mostly in Operations Management. A career highlight was managing the start-up and successful operation of the first flotation de-inking plant in N.A. along with new paper machines to produce recycle newsprint at the Thorold paper mill. Later, roles in Newsprint Technical Sales/Service required him to travel to the U.S. and many countries around the world which he enjoyed. He retired at age 70. Following Archie’s career, the family moved from Quebec City, to Clarke City, back to Quebec City, to St. Catharines, to Oakville, to Whitby, and finally to Hamilton. where he and Mary retired. Archie loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a keen interest in wine and was proud of his wine cellar. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed hunting and watching hockey & football. He always had a positive outlook and was generous, charitable and supportive. He will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when we can gather together. Donations in Archie’s memory to Mission Services of Hamilton or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
